Types of Train

Sleeper Trains

Taking an overnight train is an enjoyable way to reach your desination rested and ready for the day.

Sleepers are the most comfortable way to travel.

  • Made-up beds, including mattress, pillow and blanket or duvet.

  • Wash basin, towels and toiletries.

  • During the day, the beds fold away to leave sofa-style seating and a small table.

  • Sometimes breakfast is included in the fare.

  • On some routes a deluxe option with en-suite shower and toilet is available.

Couchettes offer basic, lower-cost sleeping:

  • 4-6 bunks, a padded platform with a pillow, sheet and blanket.

  • Communal washrooms and toilets. Single travellers share the room with other people.

  • Single-sex couchettes are available on some trains. Inter Rail Pass holders must make a reservation on overnight trains.


High Speed Trains

High speed trains travel on dedicated lines much faster than trains in the UK.

High speed trains:

  • Connect you to the centre of most major European cities.

  • Are usually quicker than flying.

  • Are more environmentally friendly than flying.

  • Offer high levels of service and comfort, usually with a bar buffet carriage.

  • Offer both first and standard class tickets. Some First class tickets include a meal served to your seat.

  • Inter Rail Pass holders must pay a small supplement to use high speed trains.


European Local Trains

Europes extensive network of local trains link major towns and cities with suburban and regional desinations.

You dont need to reserve a seat in advance. Arrive early for the cheapest tickets First class is not always available. Most trains have air conditioning and many trains have a buffet bar or refreshments trolly.


Car Carrying Trains

Car carriers transport vehicles over long distances on special double decker trains. Cars are dropped off at the station where they are loaded, and you pick it up at your destination.

Car carriers are not passenger trains. You travel on a seperate train or in any way you wish.

Why Use a car carrier?

  • Take your own car away but avoid the drive.

  • Save money on fuel, toll roads and overnight accomodation en route

  • Save on car rental at your destination

  • Arrive fresh and ready for your holiday

Eurostar

Eurostar journeys are now down to 2 hours! A super fast way to travel to paris or Brussels and incredible value for money.

Check in from 30 minutes before you leave. Travel in spacious carriages and browse the buffet bar at your leisure. Arrive in the centre of town refreshed and ready to go.

In fact, all round it is a relaxing and enjoyable journey.

Eurostar has a fleet of 27 trains which run to all parts of Europe from the UK. Destinations include: Paris Gare do Nord, Lille, Calais Frethun, Marne-la-Vallee and Brussels-Midi/Zuid. All trains depart from London St Pancras.

The buffect cars serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, sandwiches, crisps and hot snacks.

The type of meal served in Business Premier class depends on your departure time.

  • Up to 11am, a choice of a hot or continental breakfast is available

  • Between 11am and 2pm, a 3-course lunch with a choice of 2 main dishes.

  • After 5pm, there is a 3-course dinner with a choice of 2 main dishes.

  • There is a choice of complimentary alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.

Special dietry requirements can be catered for, these must be indicated at time of booking and cant be made where travel is within 36 hours of booking

Luggage

Eurostars luggage policy is very convenient

  • You're allowed 2 medium-sized items with a maximum length of 85cm, plus 1 item of hand luggage

  • No check in required

  • No weight limit

  • Each item must have a label showing your name, seat number, date of travel and destination

  • Hand luggage can go in the overhead storage; larger items in the suitcase storage areas by the doors

Bikes

Bikes can be carried on board as long as they can be folded down to the size of a suitcase.

Alternatively space can be booked in the luggage van or on a seperate train. Please enquire for further details. Expect to pay £25 each way for this service.

TGV

You'll need to reserve your seat on a TGV. Bookings can be made up to 3 months before you depart.

The TGV is the fastest train in Europe and one of the most comfortable. Seats are spacious and have armrests and individual tables throughout.
